This will leave a big smile on your face. It's such a sincere interpretation and a testament not only to Bergman's understanding of the work but also of the enduring appeal of the opera itself. All parts competently sung, but I would single out Papageno's as played and sung with perfection and great humour.

The title expresses my views on this marvellous film. The performance has flaws, but Bergman understands Mozart as no lesser artist ever will. The soloists might be stronger, but the choral work is sublime.

Superb! Outstanding! Truly superb! Ingmar Bergman directing this masterpiece combines the grace and majesty of a grand opera house with the technical advantages of full scale filming. The audience never feels constrained within the weak limits of the stage, but never loses sight of the stage floor.
From the captivating opening to the last enchanting scene a most inspiring fairy tale. Delightful to see for all the family.
Highly recommended.

This is one of the best interpretations of The Magic Flute I have seen. I love Bergman's instruction of this version, it has a life of it's own. Papageno is portrayed like the Papageno I always imagine, funny and light hearted.

And he took out afew important parts. The singing isn't too bad, but could be alot better. The only exceptional singer is Papageno.
There are several aspects of this production I don't understand. For instance, at the beginning of the opera, the actors are holding up subtitles in Swedish while ... Read More:
