 Rating:  - Glad, not sorryHow can anyone resist the achey sadness of Jeff Tweedy's vocals, mixed with the luch harmonies of the magnificent Jayhawks?! Those of you lucky enough to catch them touring together will treasure the memories, and should grab this album pronto. Wonderful alt-country, and with a fabulous version of the Faces' 'Glad and Sorry' which would bring a tear to the toughest cowboy's eyes. Still playing it years after it came out. Much better than 'Weird Tales', despite what the other review says! Rating:  - You can smell the talent but can't see it yet...There's something going on here, a group starting to mould and develop, some excellent country rock. But start with Weird Tales, a much better album. Or skip straight to the Jayhawks (Smile or Sound of Lies, or Hollywood Town Hall.) Or try Wilco, or Son Volt, Soul Asylum or Uncle Tupelo. But come back afterwards and give this one a listen. |
