Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not the best but interesting in places
this album is not the greatest of Zappa albums but some songs are a particular highlight e.g "Rudy" because of the wit involved in the lyrics by Frank Zappa and the characters of Flo and Eddie. The best song has to be "Road Ladies" with Zappa on fine form on vocals and the bluesy guitar work making the song one of the most interesting in FZ's career. The poorest song on the album has to be "Would you all go away" because of the poor lyrical content involved.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Overlooked
Chunga's Revenge is an oft ignored album in the Zappa canon and it's easy to understand why: with a body of work as large as Zappa's and with much of that work being ambitious, controversial and unique even unto itself then something is always going to get overlooked.
The album fell between the instrumental brilliance of 'Hot Rats'/'Burnt Weeny Sandwich' and the lengthy and conceptual '200 Motels' film soundtrack and is often seen as a transition between these works. The problem with this description is the word transitional: used to define the character of a song/album it can often end up becoming an indirect criticism of it; implying that it is inferior to the work that preceeded it and in turn that which follows it. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wild beauty with a flair for the bzarre
the chances are that if you've got this far you're a Frank fan.
You probably own most of the finer Zappa albums, but if you are missing this one, then u are missing out.
Continuing the vocular talents of those guys who brought u the 'Filmore East ' concerts, with a heavy dose of self-mocking and a masterclass of musicianship , the album changes its wonderfully crafted tunes from all-out frank-in-solo format to the easy, laid-back jazz of 'Twenty Small Cigars'. It is this singular, masterful (and sometimes self-mocking)ability of song-writing abilty which has kept us fans addicted to the sheer genius of this man's creation. Hey- just play this bugger and i defy u to tell me it is not beautiful!!!!! Best Regards, somethings are worth ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A varied album in terms of style not quality.
A varied album in terms of style, not quality; Zappa draws together Mothers old and new to perform the joyous rock of "Tell Me You Love Me", the Eastern-guitar modes of opener "Transylvania Boogie", and the Jazz of "Twenty Small Cigars". Choice moments include George Duke's live vocal/keyboard scat on "The Nancy and Mary Music", Ian Underwood's wah-wah sax on the title track, and a rare performance on drums ("The Clap") by Zappa himself. Plenty of fine guitar work, a bit of blues ("Road Ladies"), and a few sing-alongs make this a worth-while purchase ...especially at the price they want for it here! (I paid more for mine, never going to the High Street again... moan...grumble...)
