As mentioned in the other review, this disc is in two halves - a "cheesy little psychodrama" called "Progress?" and a standard Mothers rock show. Some of this material turned up on "Weasels Ripped my Flesh" (about six minutes of it), but it's great to hear the whole thing in sequence. "Progress?" doubtless loses some of its impact without visuals, but it's the second half that's the real highlight here - tight, mostly instrumental workouts of the Mothers' "hits" knocked out one after the other. It kicks off with what I believe to be the finest rendition of "King Kong" in Zappa's catalogue and finishes with a storming guitar solo during "The Orange County Lumber Truck". This is an album cataloguing an entire show by the original 60s Mothers. the first half is devoted to a musical comedy play that Frank put together instead of a support band. It lacks the visual element, but Frank provides commentary in the inlay. The second half is what Frank describes as an average Mothers show, but to me it's got great, solid, performances of some of FZ's best music. A true treat, as many of Frank's live albums contained edits and overdubs - this is completely live and sequential. If you want to hear a live show by what many call Frank's only "real" band, this is the way to go.
