 Rating: - A fine, solid contemporary blues recordKoko Taylor's best record for many years, "Force Of Nature" is over an hour of tough blues, soul and R&B, and Koko Taylor at 63 has lost none of the power of her huge, growling voice. She reinterprets Toussaint McCall's tender soul lament "Nothing Takes the Place of You" and Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog", and Tina Turner has nothing on Koko Taylor on Ike's R&B chestnut "If I Can't Be First". There is plenty of genuine blues here as well, including a really good "Born Under A Bad Sign" with guest star Buddy Guy, and harpist Carey Bell guests on the excellent opening track "Mother Nature". The self-penned "63 Year Old Mama" is a powerful slow grind with some great piano playing and an awesome vocal performance by Taylor, and ... Read More: |
