 Rating: - Simply the BestBon Jovi get off the Air! These are two of the best Rock albums ever bar-none. Sadly Saxon suffered from the fact that bands that were not even half as good as them i.e. the truly awful Bon Jovi came on the scene and sold squillions of records to people who were not true Rock fans, this meant that many Rock acts were dropped from their labels or forced to adopt a "Jovi-like-sound" that was utterly alien to both them and their fans as can be heard on the very poor Saxon albums that came later as mentioned by some of the other reviewers here, the worst of which would probably be "Destiny" on this one you may as well scratch off the Saxon logo and just write "Bon Jovi" at the top, it really is that bad, and I am sad to say after that album I never ... Read More: Rating: - Heavy Metal At Its BestThese albums have stood the test of time better than i could have ever imagined. They both still sound as fresh as they did on release. It`s hard to explain to all those of you that will be buying these for the 1st time how big an impact Wheels Of Steel had on the then new NWOBHM. The title track has almost taken on a mythical status in the HM world but its true that it helped define the NWOBHM scene. There are loads & loads of absolutley killer tracks available here. All with that destinctive Saxon guitar sound. As has been said already Strong Arm... is an absolutley stunning album. Saxon allways had an ability to go from fast uptempo songs to slow mid tempo stuff in the drop of a hat but they allways wrote songs you`d walk away singing, Check ... Read More: Rating: - AwsomeFor anyone getting into the world of heavy rock/metal and missed these albums first time round, the advice is - it doesnt get much better than these. Right up there with "Back in Black" (AC/DC) Strong Arm is one of the finest heavy rock albums ever! There isnt a dud track - if only the soloing at the end of "Taking your chances" could go on and on. "Hungry Years" is the pick of an excellent bunch. These two albums display Saxon at their finest. Do yourself a favour and seek them out, now! Rating: - Two classics as oneSaxon; leviathans of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and all round rock gods in the 1980s. A band whose obvious enjoyment in all they did was only matched by their raucous embrace of the metal genre. So it was that one of England’s most recognisable bands of the time produced two of the finest albums of the era. That the two can be obtained all at the same time is a bonus. Whilst this pack offers acceptable live versions of various classics, they are merely a distraction from the stripped down sound and distinctive vocals by which Saxon were once able to reduce Iron Maiden to being their support act. Read More: Rating: - If you missed the NWOBHM buy this.At their peak, which musically was these 2 albums, but commercially probably the next album Denim & Leather, Saxon were up there with Maiden as THE happening Brit Metal band. Their particular brand of metal was hard to catagorise, ranging from straightforward rockers with a touch of the AC/DC to more melodic songs such as the great 747 and Suzi Hold On to the longer more epic Dallas 1pm. Quite why this bunch of lads from Barnsley did not succeed in the same way that Maiden or for that matter Def Leppard we will never know. At least a good retrospective of their early works is avaialble in this package. |
