Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Calloway has become a role model. Without him, sartorially at least, there'd have been no Kid Creole or Lou Bega. The supreme showman , clad in zoot suits containing enough fabric to clothe a fair-size village, Cab led one of the most popular big bands of the swing era. This release demonstrates some of the reasons why. Included are jazz classics such as "Ghost Of A Chance", Louis Jordan-styled jivers that include "A Chicken Ain't Nothing But A Bird" and "Oh Grandma" and even a hint of things to come in "I Want To Rock", which stems from 1942. Cab's vocals vary from showtime ("Minnie The Moocher") through to the dreary "San Francisco Fan", a performance that makes the listener realise why one-time band member Dizzy Gillespie once pulled a knife on his leader. As all-encompassing as they come. --Fred Dellar
