I don't really know what happened with this album. I remain a steadfast fan of Rebecca Pidgeon since her earliest days, and I've always enjoyed traditional Scottish folk music. What could go wrong?
This album is a real departure for Rebecca in terms of style. She does a very good job of singing the traditional folk songs. Fear A Bhata works well, as does The Four Marys and the Twa Corbies. Thematically the songs are typically Celtic in theme, of which it is said the fighting songs are happy and the love songs are sad. Four Marys is an album of traditional Scottish songs by the singer/actress Rebecca Pidgeon. I fell in love with this CD the first time I listened to it. The songs are wonderful, but it is Rebecca's stunning voice which really gets you hooked. She has a sweet, emotive voice, but these songs are certainly not sickly sweet ballads. Rebecca Pidgeon's greatest talent lies in her ability to convey the meaning of these songs so strongly. My favourite tracks are The Haughs of Cromdale, a beautiful version of Fhear a Bhata and The Four Marys. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who loves traditional music.
