 Rating: - What an album!This album is just amazing! It is going to be one of my all time favourites I can tell. I've bought a lot of plinky plonky jazz over the last year or two with some mixed results but this album stands head and shoulders above them all. It beats ECM at its own game. I wasn't expecting a classic - I just liked the idea of the album and the title - in fact I thought it would be unable to live up to its promise but it delivers (and then some). Credit too, to whoever penned Amazon's description above - it really captures the essence of this fine album. 5 Stars! Rating: - PhenomenalYou need a good sound system with special attention to the higher frequencies to bring out the crispness of Barron's notes. Yet it also needs to pay sufficient attention to the low frequencies to allow Haden's strings surface. Once that is in place, you will be left with a timeless downtempo live jazz album. Night music at its best, this album has won a place in my heart and something tells me it is here to stay. Rating: - A mellow 'wow factor'!One of the most played CDs in my collection - and not just by me! Imagine the evening. A high-class hotel foyer, or restaurant, with a piano and a bass creating a relaxed, smooth ambiance, and you have the essence of this album. Superb background without becoming wallpaper. The technique of the two musicians, the subtle interplay, combine to drift in and out of your consciousness to create a melow wow factor! |
