 Rating: - Oh my word...I remember seeing the rather bizarre video for "Tribal Convictions" on one of those Rock Video shows that used to be on ITV at ridiculous times in the morning - you know the ones: Hosted by somebody like the buxomly clad Jakki Lynn (sp.?) that were always something to watch whilst chomping on your kebab after coming in from the pub. Anyway - I digress. I thought "What a tune!" and rushed out to buy the album as soon as it hit the shelves. At the time I wasn't really into the thrashier side of the metal scene but this stood out amongst its counterparts due to its amazing musicality and incredible lyrics. What you have here, ladies and gentlemen, just as you thought they were becoming incredibly unfashionable, is a good old fashioned Concept ... Read More: Rating: - Underated canadian Classic.You only need one voi vod album and it is dimension hatross. The songs seem like absolute chaos on first listen but the more you listen the more you realise it is actually intended chaos. The musicianship on offer is of an incredibly high standard and piggy's guitar tone has to be heard to be believed. The songs themselves are fantastic. Not really a band for the catchy sing along chorus, more sheer energy and violence. Ignore the progrock overtones of the story and just turn the volume up to ten to hear the intensity on offer. Slipknot? schoolgirls compared to this sonic metal mayhem. Ironically it was the success of this album that lead to the bands undoing. It was recieved with some acclaim at the time and also quite a bit of sales success ... Dimension Hatross was a key album in Voivod's career, seeing them shift their writing from industrial/thrash to full on physchedelia (but make no mistakes this is still a very heavy album). Tracks like "tribal Convictions" are now considered classics of the genre.Still not sure? Go on take a chance,if you like your metal heavy and original, you won't be dissappointed! |
