 Rating: - Nostalgic window into death metals past....Hypocrisy Were one of those bands that had it all. But due to the mass marketing of the death metal labels at exactly the time they released this debut, they never made the running. Maybe thats a bit harsh. They certainly carved out a name for themselves in the death metal circles of Europe, and to a small extent the US too. I suppose I really mean that they missed out on World wide success the likes of which Morbid Angel, Obituary and their ilk had already assured themselves of. Even Nuclear Blast had its own pet bands that it seemed to push more than the rest. Gorefest were probably the best example. And so this couldn't have been a great thing for Hypocrisy. Which is a shame because Hypocrisy play damn fine death metal. On its ... Read More: Rating: - Solid Fast Death MetalHypocrisy are a quality outfit who just happened to come about at the time the shelves were bursting with new death metal acts. Nuclear Blast records seemed to be pumping hundreds of albums out every month, and this unfortunatly meant that Hypocrisy were left as an also ran in the death metal stakes. This album is fast, brutal, not to shy in its out look and very competent. Some of the solos on here should come with a headphones warning as they burst you eardrums due to excessive widdly diddlying !!!!! The vocals are good and harsh, with just enough edge to understand most of whats being said (usually against God, or someone they don't generally like). The breaks in this album are superb.
