Now I may be slightly biased as I was raised with Wally Whyton, but I think this cd is simply marvelous. I just love Wally's warm voice, as does my son, who repeatedly asks for this cd to be played. I see that a previous reviewer complained that this cd was not the same as the original. Well my mother had the foresight to transfer my old Whyton LPs to cd format prior to getting rid of them, which means I've been able to compare them closely -and this recording and the original are very similar. It's true that some of the chat has been lost on this version, but to be honest I prefer it that way. There are only so many times I can listen to Wally explain the five little piggies nursery rhyme without going nuts, so think I will for now on be ... Read More:

CD set has many songs, but most of them are not worth the effort, often bad recordings. CD3 is worth listerning to, but not the other two. Chris

What a Mega disappointment!! Back in the late 70's we had a Wally Whyton LP with around 30 songs, nursery rhymes and other little ditties. It was wonderful, our three sons loved it, only it got damaged and was thrown away. We cannot remember the title and so decided to do a search on the web for "W. W." CD's, in the hope of re-discovering the past, but this time with our grandchildren. We're so disappointed that we've only played it once and that was immediately after it arrived, without the grandchildren present. It's not a patch on that old original. How I wish that we could remember it's title, it was really something special! Wally had a few words to say between each song and rhyme, it really did keep the childrens' attention. If ... Read More:

I got a gift of a Wally Whyton album as a kid and loved it. I remember simging along to all the old favourites plus a few songs only my siblings and I seemed to know like the Big Ship Sails on the Alley O. I went looking for it on the web a few decades later for my child and I re-realise it's great. So many kids compilations are limp and banal. This is a pleasure for parents and kids alike packed with dozens of familiar songs, lovely melodies and the wonderful warm and melodious voice of Wally Whyton.

These are funny, nostalgic, occasionally irreverant songs which my son (2) asks for in preference to TV and which transport me back to my toddlerhood. If you could do with a break from electronic/jingly/silly-voice/cutesy/character-based children's music then you'll probably enjoy Wally Whyton's contribution to the box set. We never listen to the third one (mainly Petula Clark) but that's not to say it's not good.
