Utilising Wagnerian structure, Barry's three main themes recur in magisterial symphonic form. The memorable "John Dunbar" theme alone has become an almost subconscious part of modern life, utilised as Muzak and underscore for public events great and small. Barry's skills as an arranger colour his themes in subtly shifting orchestral hues, giving even the most repeated melodic passages new emotional weight.  Rating:  - A Must Have Film ScoreJohn Barry's Dances with Wolves is a masterful work. It can be listened to over and over again, without becoming tiresome. Buy this score and you will treasure it in your collection for years to come. Do not listen to reviews on this page that put this score down, what you need to do is make your own opinion, and not listen to people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. This score is one of the best scores by the masterful composer John Barry, buy it NOW and you will NOT regret it. Rating:  - Cheesey SchmaltzThis lightweight noodling piffle has got as much to do with real orchestral music as Dairylea has got to do with real Cheese! Divorced from the movie it is forgetable. It has nothing at all to do with evoking the time and place [we could be in any country or context] and the emotional impact is all sentimentality or bombast. Korngold and Copland were real composers whose film scores stand up to repeated listening, John Barry is a skilled musician who nicks other people's melodic ideas and who will be doomed to be remembered as a one-hit wonder. Rating:  - Classical perfectionLike the film the music completely captures the time and place and the end of an era in American History. This musical score is stunning from the exceptional John Dunbar theme to the simple but heartning music of the Two Socks at play theme. This classical track is wonderfull perfectly capturing the best moments of the film and well worth buying. John Barry produced something of lasting quality here and for any classical soundtrack person this is a must! |
