Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: "We wanted a tough album," producer Quincy Jones recalls in a bonus interview on this special edition of Bad. Though the 1987 blockbuster would appear to be Michael Jackson's most personal statement to date--nine of its 11 cuts were written solely by him--its appeal also rested more on craft than the idiosyncratic art of Thriller and Off the Wall. At the same time, most of Bad has aged well in spite of its digital brittleness and MIDI treatments of gems such as Jimmy Smith's organ solo on the title track. While the third best of his first three Epic solo discs, Bad carries a lot of what people love about Jackson's music. This disc also benefits from two fine outtakes, the exciting, up-tempo "Streetwalker" and the Carpenters homage "Fly Away". Either could easily have extended the record's run of hit singles. --Rickey Wright

I'm not going to knock Michael Jackson for all the extra curricular stuff that seems now to tower over any of his musical achievements,I'm also going to point out that he's since made far inferior albums-my beef with Jacko is that this album was the soundtrack to hundreds of car journeys following my brother getting it as a 13th birthday present back in 1988. Even back then, with my limited powers of criticism I hated it, now I've had years to dwell on the reasons why.
To put it simply-songs-or lack of- are the problem. The title track sounds like someone's little brat in the throes of a paddy pants-down, 'The Way You Make Me Feel', the album's most melodic offering is ruined by the sound of someone dropping a toolbox down a flight of ... Read More:

People from my generation are determined by the MJ album they first owned. I had Thriller and that shaped me, definetely giving me an interest in the occult. MY cousin Kyle had this and that shaped his lifelong interest in midi keyboards and touching children.
What happened to the brilliant spoken word intro to "I Just Can't Stop Loving You?"
It went:
"I Just Want To Lay Next To You
For A while
You Look So Beautiful Tonight
Your Eyes Are So Lovely
Your Mouth Is So Sweet
A Lot Of People
Misunderstand Me
That's Because They Don't
Know Me At All
I Just Want To Touch You
And Hold You
I Need You
God I Need You
I Love You So Much"

1987... I was 15 and I knew nothing about music, until Bad came along I was known at school as a bit of a bookworm, I loved(And still do)reading. Then my mum gave me some money to go get myself a book but there wasn't any new books out that I hadn't already read so I went to the music section of my local supermarket, the only album I saw that caught my eye was the current number one album...BAD. So I got it on cassette so I could play it on my walkman and from the first song right through to the last I was completely hooked, to say this is the only album I ever listened to for a whole year would be an understatement, I went out and bought Thriller and Off the wall but after a few listens I always ended up missing Bad. This album is a real nostalgia ... Read More:

Bad, well after listening to it from first release and then watching the fall of the artist from grace, I must confess to switching off Michael Jackson for some time. The purchase of this cd and playing it again simply because the price was right in comparison to what I paid first time round I was expecting the same response. What I didn't expect was to be told by my three children that I had bought some real music, they went mad to bad, dancing around moving in time with each track and demanding more and more of that wonderful sound. I must admit I was moved that genius still is appreciated. This is a great album, full of interesting lyrics, great tonal range and complex musical arrangements. Bad perhaps, but great.
