 Rating:  - Very good....BUT...do not mistake the confused listing details on this item to mean you are buying a movie with Whoopi Goldberg in it! She is in a TV series of the same name but NOT in this movie. This item is the DVD of the movie. The movie is very good indeed. The only reason for the 4 stars (not the full five) is that I wanted it to be perfect but the acting and directing sometimes lets it down - but I am nit picking! It is great really and certainly one I recommend to everyone at any given opportunity! Rating:  - "Too much harmony"Bagdad Cafe aka Out of Rosenheim is a German film although it's set in the Mojave Desert with only two Germans in the cast. In a way it's a distant relation of the wave of 70s German independent films starring faded American stars or directors (think Wim Wenders' work with Nicholas Ray and Dennis Hopper for an example) with a touch of magical realism thrown into the comic mix. A big hit in its day, time has been less kind to it and it veers more towards the irritating and overdrawn than the charming as it progresses. The major problem is the slightness of the material, with Marianne Sagebracht's displaced German housefrau doing an underplayed Mary Poppins act on the miserable and worn out employees and hangers on around the dilapidated roadside ... Read More: Rating:  - Quirky classicRight from the start you know this something special. Odd camera angles and a couple in a U.S desert speaking German. The man leaves the woman and she walks until she finds a cafe run by a black lady at which she can stay. Thats basically the plot up to the opening credits - I've given absolutely nothing away. How the film develops from there and the way the characters are interwoven is wonderful. All the actors and actresses give amazing performances including an ageing Jack Palance whose Mr Cox is a real oddball. The film certainly wasn't a huge commercial success, but commercial success has nothing to with quality. Its difficult to make comparisons with other films because this is a one of a kind, but it has something ... Many films go on too long; when I originally saw it, 'Bagdad Cafe' was the first film about which I could say that it finished too soon. It's funny, strange, tender, visually arresting - everything you could want in a film. Not to mention the fantastically haunting soundtrack. Buy it now - you won't be disappointed. Rating: - totally magicAbsolutely wonderful movie, what a great surprise. Don't be misled by the title! Delightful, simple yet profound, moving story! Oddly stunning visually with a great soundtrack. No clues. just watch it and enjoy. It will leave you with a warm tingling feeling and totally satisfied that you have discovered a simple masterpiece.
