 Rating:  - A nice changeWhen i first heard this track i nver realised that it was made by the Chemical Brothers. I have never heard of any of The Flaming Lips` output, but the track is fantastic.Describing myself as a dance music fan, i think this is an intelligent piece of music which diverts away from the occassional weirdness which the Chems can be attributed to. Its a slow tuneful beat accomponied by the Flaming lips bloke telling/singing a story, which is followed by random shouts of "LOrd Help me". Anyway, to cut a long story short, its good. Yeah! Rating:  - You MUST see the video for thisOne of the two entirely new single releases on their Singles 93-03 compilation (the other being the less interesting Get Yourself High), I found this to be a little quirky on first listen. It's a real grower though, I'd count it as one of my favourite Chem Bros tracks now, amongst Setting Sun, The Test and Under the Influence. It also got me thinking, what other great collaborations might we see in the future? Nick Cave or Mark E Smith would be top of my list... There's a fantastic video for this single too - stylish, surreal, and very funny. Available either on DVD single, or on the Singles 93-03 DVD. Rating:  - what is this?This is what happens when a good idea goes horribly wrong. On paper, a Flaming Lips/Chemical Bros collaboration may have seemed interesting but the actual execution is just bad bad bad. It may be Wayne's whiny voice, or the boring story he's droning on about, that drags our Chemicals down to such a snooze level. Whatever the reason, skip this. (I've read there's a dance remix that might not be all that bad, but it'd have to be a downright resurrection to save this dreck.) Rating:  - Serious mis-step from the LipsThis little song never should have been released. While the story Wayne is telling is somewhat interesting, he tells it in a cocky half speak half sing style which isn't very good. The music is not very interesting - I suspect that would be the chemical brothers mostly. With all of the songs that they have released in the 18 monthgs, its understandable to finally have a song thats not that great... Rating: - A collaboration to die for....This song is probably one of the Chemical Brothers' best to date. This strange, psychadelic trip, with more than a few Wizard of Oz references, is one of the most absurdly catchy songs you will have heard in quite some time. Wayne Coyne's voice is instantly recognisable to Flaming Lips fans, while the rhythmic background music definitely has the Chemicals' signature on it. This is unmissable, and proves that there is light at the end of the manufactured pop tunnel. Buy this now!!!!!!! |
