Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: Fly or Die, the second album from NERD is, irritatingly, not quite what you want and never quite what it seems. That's not to say it isn't occasionally brilliant, just a little taxing on the grey matter and something of an eccentric folly. If you're looking for the pop accessibility they produce as the Neptunes, frustration may force you to wish you'd never been swayed by all that hip rhetoric.
Of course, Pharrell Williams is a star in his own right and can croon like the best, so it would be churlish for him to omit a crowd pleaser or two. Hence the spaced-out "She Wants to Move", a funk-rock belter that contains the line "Her ass is a spaceship I want to ride". The rest of the album feels awkward, drawing on a confusing roll call of influences, including prog rock, the Beatles and Hendrix. But there's wheat amongst the psychedelic chaff: "Wonderful Place" stands out a mile as the best thing on here, a slice of toasted soul baguette that's as heavenly as manna. Often infuriating, yet never predictable, NERD shine when they get it right. Just forgive them their youthful indulgence, if that's what it takes. --Paul Tierney
Description: 'Fly Or Die' is the second studio album from the LA supergroup N.E.R.D. Following on from 2002's 'In Search Of', this release is a progression from their debut which the band claimed to never be a finished work. Here the band mix up hip-hop, modern pop, rock and Motown with touches of disco and R&B. The band's day job - as the production team The Neptunes -is clearly displayed. Their work with such a range of artists as Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes and Britney Spears has clearly influenced the band's direction.

The renowned producer Pharrell Williams brings his talents forward once again to the follow up album to the band's first album `In search of...' which was ok but this is by far a better buy if you're looking for exciting rock/rap music.
The most influential tracks are `She wants to move' `the way she dances' and `jump' which all provide an upbeat tone and justify the rocking genre perfectly.
Some tracks to be skipped are `Backseat love' and `Breakout' which sound awful with a backing track that's sounds uncomfortable and unjustified.
With classic rapping by Pharrell and the other members playing instruments it is an acceptable album, perhaps not worth buying but listening to if you like this type of ... Read More:

On first listen, I wondered if N.E.R.D had shot themselves in the foot. Having already listened to In search of.. several times, I was shocked to find this Lp "Fly or die" a completly different experience. To me this album cannot be classified as one particular genre of music and it makes me wonder if N.E.R.D weren't sure either. The album jumps around a lot and there are some moments when you think that they have got the order of songs wrong. For example wonderful place, a very laid back, Bacarach esque track, where Pharell's falsetto describes his look on the world. It then jumps to when a family go on a boat and the youngest member nearly dronws. You do feel quite heartfelt when listening to this track, a mother's desperation to see whether ... Read More:

fly or die has to be the second most played c.d in my mucic collection!(and i play ALOT of c.ds!) It is a must HAVE c.d! although I am sad to admit that it is not as amazing as 'in search of' n*e*r*d first album it is still a great follow up. Alot more rocky and alot less clipse :( still if ur a n*e*r*d fan its deffo a gud buy!!!

This album has 3 tracks which stand out so far above the rest that it makes you wonder why they didn't make the whole album like that. It makes you wish they did anyway. It's pretty inconsistent and therefore quite frustrating to listen to at times. There's still something unique about what N*E*R*D are doing though, the best might yet be to come.
