Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Anyone familiar with writer/director James L. Brooks (Broadcast News, As Good As It Gets) knows the man has a real feel for interesting women and a disarming way with a one-liner. The main women in Spanglish are Deborah Clasky (Téa Leoni), a moneyed SoCal mom, and non-English speaking Flor Moreno (Paz Vega), the beautiful Latina whom Deborah hires as a housekeeper. The one-liners, some of them amusing, are everywhere. Brooks provides an intriguing set-up for the two women to butt heads--Deborah's pudgy daughter Bernice (Sarah Steele) needs the affection at which Flor excels, while Flor's clever, bi-lingual daughter Cristina (Shelbie Bruce) is enamoured of the financial advantages Deborah can provide--then proceeds to make Deborah so hatefully ignorant you can't imagine why her neuroses are the main thrust of the film. And Deborah's celebrated chef husband John (Adam Sandler, way over his head) is such a perfect parent he doesn't seem human--what happened to the Brooks who had Terms of Endearment mom Debra Winger turn to her scowling little boy and grunt "Don't make me hit you in the street"? Cloris Leachman has a nifty supporting role as Deborah's boozy, ex-jazz singer mother, but it's only one offbeat chord in an earnest film that hits all the wrong notes. --Steve Wiecking, Amazon.com

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - No masterpiece; however .......
With its faults, the film works just fine if one remembers that the story is seen through the eyes/memories of a child. Adam Sandler is finally doing something different; you don't actually have a headache after five minutes from all the "noise and hopping about" - Just like Robin Williams who has turned into a fine-tuned actor. Let's hope he continues.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Dreadful
I like Adam Sandler and Paz Vega (dislike Tea Leoni as an actress though), so was looking forward to watching this. However ti has 2 huge problems: the script is one of the worst I've ever witnessed and the acting is dreadfully over-done and at best 'awkward'.

If you consider yourself a true film fan I would recommend not soiling your eyes with this rubbish!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Better than expected
First this is not really an Adam Sandler movie. He plays an important role but is really just a supporting character. The main characters are played by Tea Leonie and Paz Vega.
Tea Leonie plays a selfish manipulative woman completely oblivious to the harm she is causing to her own family and yet you can't help but care for her. Credit to Tea Leonie and writer/director James L. Brooks.
Paz Vega plays Tea's near perfect house keeper who's main concern is raising her daughter.
The main theme of the movie is the contrast between the two women. When Tea discovers how easy it is to impress Paz's teenage daughter she pretty much gives up on her own children. Paz is left with the awful job of telling her daughter that she can't have ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - warm!
This movie is not about gags or laughs, as many would think, since Adam Sandler is in it. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful movie, poetic, warm, interesting, nice flaw and tempo. If I would try to find a genre for the movie, I would say it is a story. The feeling is similar to reading a book, and will guarantee a nice, cozy summer evening, for those who seek some not so shallow entertainment.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Are you having a laugh?!?!?
This movie is terrible it has no story no funny moments and the worst thing is.... ADAM SANDLER IS IN IT!!! Adam sandler is to much of a good funny acter to be in this garbage. To be honest i only watched 20 min of it when it was on TV it was that bad i had to tearn it off before i was to commit suicide! I didnt really get the story line and i dont care if you were hoping to no wat it was. No offence of course. Also Adam sandlers character is weird and has an afro. !!!!!! Since when did Adam Sandler have an afro?!?!?! The other revewier gave it 4 stars. Thats pathetic its not even good. The other acters are even worse. Theres that acter from JP 3 and deep impact whatever her name is shes teribble. The other acters are wanabes who probly gave up ... Read More:
