Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: What's stranger: Willie Nelson singing lilting reggae melodies, or a Jamaican chestnut like "The Harder They Fall" set to an acoustic country arrangement, complete with Dobro? Given Nelson's well-publicised taste for ganja, it's not surprising he's also fond of the island's major musical export. The genre-straddling Countryman, replete with dub effects, skanking beats, ringing steel guitars, and Nelson's signature nylon-string picking, doesn't measure up to his earlier, artful Lost Highway releases. But his voice is still mellow gold, and there are tunes--like his duet with reggae/R&B singer Toots Hibbert on Johnny Cash's "I'm a Worried Man" and his own somber reading of Jimmy Cliff's "Sitting in Limbo"--that tap into the souls of desperate men to extol the power of faith over adversity. --Ted Drozdowski

As an artist myself , one might think that I am biased for the basic concept of this album, and I maybe , but it is the fact that it took ten years to make, and the fusion of it all, along with the fact that all of the songs are very personal, and everybody can relate to the lyrics, because of the hurt, the pain and the anguish life throws at us.
The wonderful cover versions, which have been done ddifferently to the original of "Sitting here in limbo", again the words are the song, and then "The harder they come', it takes on a totally different sound. Then( listeners of good music and musicianship) the fusion of country music along with reggae and voices of the great and wonderful Willie Nelson and Toots to make the single ... Read More:

The first reference I heard to this album was on the Unplugged recording that Willie released with Johnny Cash. Willie introduced Cash's "Worried Man" and says it is from the reggae album he'd just recorded ..... and the notes on the liner of this CD bears this out. Originally recorded back in the late 90s, these songs have now been released with additional production carried out last year.
And do you know what? It works really well (most of the time). Some of the tracks sound like they are fairly straight renditions of classic Willie songs with a few dub effects and a skanking riff in the background - fun but not essential. But on certain tracks, the reggae rhythms add a great deal to Willie's voice. Standout tracks for me ... Read More:
