Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - hey, jump on the bandwagon and pretend this is talent...
Having heard Daniel Johnston namedropped incessantly over the last 10 years, when I finally got round to listening to one of his albums (this one) I became really concerned as to what people deem to be quality music and talent.

Actually that was after I broke down into fits of laughter at how completely ridiculous this album is. Talk about emperors new clothes! If David Bowie, Kurt Cobain and Thurston Moore say you're great then obviously you wouldn't be cool if you didn't agree, right?

So I'm supposed to feel the pain here? Well I do, but obviously not in the same way other that the other reviewers here do. Sounds like someone singing like a five year old to me. The stripped down simplicity of his 'songwriting'? ... Read More:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - YIP/JUMP
YIP is quite possibly daniels best album and is considered so among the majoritiy of his fans. There are some good songs featured on this album however the albums consistency is low. There are alot of songs that are simply not musical or up to the standards of what a song should be about. This is a very personal album and you can learn alot about daniels own character from listening to it. However alot of the songs feel as though they would mean far more to him than to someone whou would buy the album.
I cant help but feel as though this album has been hyped considerably over the years. Not for everyone and if you are interested in buying this album then i would recomend watching the documentory, the devil and daniel johnston first.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The greatest work of the greatest
A lot of people laugh when they first hear Daniel Johnston or are appalled by if they stopped and looked at a list of his musician fans including David Bowie, Nirvana, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Teenage Fanclub, Bmx Bandits, Sparklehorse, Beck, Mercury Rev, Pearl Jam, Spiritualized, The Pastels and Death Cab For Cutie they might just think well there must be something here. There is something here, something special, probably the greatest songwriting talent of the last 25 years.
I first became aware of the name Daniel Johnston through cover versions of his songs by some of my favourite bands The Pastels, Half Japanese and BMX Bandits and then Kurt wore a Daniel Johnston T shirt and I had to find the originals. It was a culture shock ... Read More:
