This association with jazz and bossa nova godfathers brought her a lot of flak from critics quick to dismiss her "artless singing style" and "limited vocal range". However, to the music listeners who succumbed to her vocal charms - and I sure am one of them - the most important aspect of Astrud Gilberto's singing was her ability to get the most out of everything song she performed. As a bonus, her music greatly benefitted from sumptuous Brazilian cum U. S. orchestrations.
