On previous albums, Watson has tackled songs by pop artists as diverse as Ultravox ("Vienna") Simon and Garfunkel ("Bridge Over Troubled Waters") and Freddie Mercury ("Barcelona"); but on That’s Life he turns his attention fully to the world of popular romance for the first time. Following in the sprightly footsteps of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, Watson approaches classics like "Strangers In The Night", "When I Fall In Love" and "Born Free" with typical verve. The selection serves to showcase Watson's natural versatility to wonderful effect, and also gives him the opportunity to perform duets with acclaimed contemporary pop stars such as Alexander O'Neal and Jocelyn Brown.  Rating:  - DreadfulRussell Watson is not an opera singer but a pop singer who for some reason has made a little talent go a long way and has been quite successful here in the in the uk, due to serval TV shows.If you want to listen to a real tenor try Domingo or good old Pavarotti now these men can sing and have been in many opera's. What opera has Russell Watson been in? On this CD he murders Freddie Mercury and the fab Montserrat Caballe song "Barcelona" . Rating:  - Star EtiquetteHmm, Yes! He's obviously got a good voice-or he wouldn't have got a recording contract or the backing for tours. But I WISH someone would polish up his on-stage persona.(Made me cringe!) His 'cheeky winks' and thumb waving put me in mind of someone saying "Ayoop Lad, Ow's t'pijjinns? (with his Whippet somewhere in the wings) Hopefully Russell's pencil-thin figure will appeal to the younger, more health conscious set (Unlike someone we used to love...) Rating: - That's Life is a good substitute - that's allThere's no doubt that Russell Watson knows how to sing properly, and he makes a good job of these classic ballads. But for me, Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett are the real thing - and always will be. I should have known better. But if you aren't middle-aged and stuck in the past you'll love this album! Rating: - thats lifevery disappointed. both wife and self agreed that the tempo was far too slow and the whole cd was consequently dreary.westlife and sinatra do a much better job. Rating: - smooth all the wayI have always been an admirers of Russells voice and his more classical albums but i think he really suits these sort of songs. The album is really nice to listen to and Russell does all these tunes justice with his smooth voice gliding effortlessly all the way. I could listen to this one all day !! |
