Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: The Traveling Wilburys were one of the few supergroups that lived up to their promise, because they didn't try to. Things started inauspiciously when George Harrison, needing a B-side for a 1988 single, called in friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison for assistance. Two albums later--the second without Orbison, who had passed away shortly after the first was released--the loose-knit collective had recorded material that was as durable, and occasionally eclipsed, the participants' legendary solo work. The Wilburys succeeded due to a genial and contagious camaraderie that permeates both discs. What could have been a train wreck of ego clashes instead resulted in a frothy meeting of the minds. These guys are having a blast, trading lead vocals and harmonies on energetic folk-rock, quirky rockabilly, and Beatlesque pop that shimmers with the respect and esteem the members clearly hold for each other. Harrison and Lynne's rather slick production polishes off edges that might better have been left unvarnished, but there's no denying the loosey-goosey craftsmanship at work in tunes such as "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," and a striking Orbison performance on "Not Alone Anymore" that ranks with any of his finest. Both albums were million-sellers, but oddly went out of print for about a decade until Rhino resurrected them, adding two rare tracks per disc as well as a DVD of music videos and a band documentary. The resulting package is a comprehensive overview of a once--well, twice--in-a-lifetime project that, especially after Harrison's passing, will never be repeated. --Hal Horowitz

Had heard the travelling wilberries and was always a fan of Roy Orbison, but one of the best bits of this was the DVD, and seeing how it started and evolved. Would recommend this to anyone who likes the singers in their own right. So relaxed and so much talent!

before you part with well over £40 for the deluxe edition you should know that it will be reissued in november to bolster pre christmas sales.
not sure if you will be able to tell the difference but this will still be a limited edition so get ready to order it as soon as it is listed on amazon.

Everyone knows the story of the Traveling Wilburys and at last their two albums are available on CD, with nice bonus tracks and a DVD about the band, including several videos.
There is more Wilbury material around, as shown by various bootlegs and collections of video clips, but this collection has the best unreleased stuff. For example, there were two videos made for Wilbury Twist, but you get the best one in this package.
The music is as good, fun and interesting as ever and the sound has been freshened up over the LPs. The DVD is worth a watch or two and suggests that the Wilburys were 'George's band'. Everyone seems to be having a ball.
Whether the deluxe version is worth the considerable extra damage ... Read More:

I own a copy of this item. Cost me £17 including postage when brand new. Now Amazon have no more available and people are trying to sell it for £70 upwards!!
I was the man wasn't I???!!! Im sitting on a collectible and I also have the original volume 1 on CD. That makes me pretty damn good I reckon.
Seriously though, what a collection. Wortha purchase as this is classic stuff. Mind you though, if you didn't pre order this item you clearly missed out....

I cannot wait for the long awaited re-release of the Wilburys catalogue.....BUT I am seriously concerned that the Videos have been "tweaked" and are not the originals. From watching the BBC Breakfast interview with Mrs' Harrison and Orbison, they showed a snippet of the Handle with Care video which then introduced new footage of going under bridges in Birmingham!!!!! The advertising blurb also states that the Wilbury Twist is the 2007 version - why not include all the entire videos and then put in alternate versions as well. The fact that the Nobodys child video and the Whatever Wilbury Wilbury promo has not been included leaves me (and I am sure other Wilbury fans) a little disappointed. Still something is better than nothing......but it could have ... Read More:
