Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk: When they exploded out of the gates on their 2004 debut, Contraband, Velvet Revolver were met with as much diffidence as appreciation. After all, supergroups have tended to detonate as often as succeed, and with vocalist Scott Weiland, bassist Duff McKagan, and guitarist Slash all vying to keep the lit match away from the fuse, the odds against this band ever seeing album #2 were even money at best. Surprise! Not only have Velvet Revolver survived three years with unreckless abandon, this album blows the doors off its predecessor. Save a pair of disinfected ballads ("The Last Fight," "Gravedancer"), Libertad is all about hand-grenade chords, drag-racing riffs, and circus-tent choruses. The ageless McKagan and Slash continually gun for the disorderliness of their former band (most notably on the punkish opener "Let It Roll" and its lewd brother "Spay"), while Weiland sounds--knock on wood--positively clean and like a voice of boisterous renewal on tracks like "Mary Mary," "She Builds Quick Machines," and the melt-in-your-mouth cover of ELO's "Can't Get It out of My Head." Obviously egos have been checked at the studio door, as Velvet Revolver have already exceeded their anticipated existence. And now that existence goes back on the clock, trying to outshine a second album that's head-and-shoulders better than the first. --Scott Holter

This was the first album i brought from Velvet Revolver, that was about a year ago, and it is still my favorite album. I can only say that it was worth every penny!!

I really like this album because it doesnt just sound like G'nR' with a different singer. This album rocks but also has fair bit of variety in the sound that sets it apart from "Contraband" .
Even the maligned ELO cover sounds great to me.
Actually i was going to give the album 4 stars but after seeing them live i was blown away (Only 6 dates or so before Scott Weiland left the band !)

Libertad is the follow-up to Velvet Revolver's debut album "Contraband" and easily worthy of the musicians involved. Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Slash sound every bit as tight as they ever did with Guns 'N' Roses, whilst Scott Weiland's vocals sound better on here than they did either with Stone Temple Pilots or on Contraband. This album is the sound of a band who have become more at ease working with each other. It is also the sound of a band who feel more comfortable experimenting with new structures and more complex arrangements. The trademark guitar solos are all still there, but the vocals are more melodic than ever and this has the feel of a future classic, where Contraband felt like "just" a good record. Purchase this for your own good ... Read More:

ITS A SHAME, Mine & many others idol is Slash the legendary guitarist from Guns n' Roses and the bluesy 'Slash's Snakepit'. However, it could have been anyone playin those 20 second guitar solo's or lifeless riffs. I remember in Guns n' Roses he had soo much flare and character yet he has shed his skin since those days and become MEDIOCORE!
The majority of tracks run from 3:00 - 4:00 minutes, compare that with 'Appetite for destruction' or any other Slash abum and you'll realise they were 4:30-6:00 minutes.
So what does this mean? Well pretty much all the tracks start of with an average riff which is repeated again only quieter throughout the verse which in my eyes is laziness for any guiatrist but 'Slash' come on ... Read More:
