 Rating:  - Bewitched by LadytronThey wear all black, sing lyrics like "Daylight is the enemy" and have called their album "Witching Hour." But wait! Before you start running for the hills screaming "Get thee behind me Goths!" sit down and listen to Ladytron's alluring electro-pop feast. It seems the band have been sneaking a listen to MBV, JAMC, The Radio Dept and 'Exterminator'-era Primal Scream on this, their third album. In fact, opening track 'High Rise' would fit snugly onto the Scream's dystopian, millennial masterpiece, as would 'Fighting In Built Up Areas'. Lead-off single 'Sugar' has saucy minx Helen Marnie cooing seductively "If I give you sugar, will you give me/Something elusive and temporary?" It's a great jailbait lyric. It contains the same tracks as the standard album, but with three additional remixes of Destroy Everything You Touch, International Dateline and Soft Power. Rating: - BewitchingTheir first two albums were good but Witching Hour is in a different league. Easily the best album of 2005 and the best electronic album I've heard since the 80s. There isn't one duff track and at least half of them would make great singles - so why aren't Ladytron huge? Beats me. Get this album and then tell all your friends about it. Rating: - Ladytron - Witching HourThis album is simply stunning - the progression and growth that this band has had over their 3 albums is outstanding, and this is proof - great melodies, mysterious lyrics and haunting synths. The album hightlights are High Rise, Last One Standing and International Dateline. I cannot recommend this album enough - buy it and be prepared to fall in love. Rating: - Their best yetContrary to some opinions, I think each Ladytron album has improved on the last (I know there's a school of thought that thinks 604 is untouchable). As an opening track, "High Rise" is fantastic (possibly the best track I heard in 2005), but it is also a real statement that you are about to hear a band move to the next level in their development, and that's exactly what happens. "Destroy Everything you Touch" and "International Dateline" are great too, and "Weekend" positively soars. I notice another reviewer who said that this album is "criminally under-rated"; and I agree whole-heartedly.
