 Rating:  - OK but not Michael's best albumThis album is OK but to me Michael's voice is not best suited to these songs. The orchestra and arrangements are very good but Michael does not seem at ease with the songs. His album 'Music' was superb and the songs were a good mixture of slow and fast tempo. Also, there is a lyric error on Make it easy on yourself. Michael says 'if the way I hold you cant compare to his embrace'. The word embrace should be caress as the next line 'no words of consolation can make me miss you less' rhymes with it. A minor error but an unnecessary one. This album is for die hard Michael fans only. However, his latest dvd is superb and shows Michael at his best, in front of a live theatre audience. Rating:  - Smooth as Silk!Put this on your stereo, light a fire & let the stress of the day just melt away. Michael's voice is as smooth as silk. He is a singer who is not afraid to try new avenues. He has to stretch and grow, and this album shows how far he has come. He can't sing just showtunes all his life. This is a wonderful album, don't be afraid to give it a try, you won't be sorry!! Rating:  - Sorry Michael - this one's not for me.Unless I have purchased a duff version of the CD or I've suddenly lost my musical ear, Michael's voice just does not seem to be suited to these songs - where has the 'oomph' gone compared to the originals? Please try and listen to this before you buy it, particularly if you know the originals very well. Don't just buy it because you are a Michael Ball fan and think he can do no wrong. Rating:  - B&B get on just fine.....Burt Bacharach is a giant of 20th century popular music. His irresistible music is as intricate as it is passionate, as subtle as it is soulful. He's also one of the most interpreted songwriters in history so it must be a daunting task for any singer to record yet another album tribute to the man. Perhaps it's no surprise then that the tracks on Michael Ball's album that, for me at least, work best are the songs which have been covered the least and are less familiar. Out of these, 'One less Bell to Answer' is a standout because it's the one song on the album that Ball is truly able to inhabit emotionally, while 'Reach out For Me' is an absolute revelation with a big band arrangement. Here are a few words that spring to mind: Classy, Brilliant, Beautiful, Exceptional, and definitely Worth the Wait. If you love REAL talent and appreciate a first rate singer, GO AND BUY IT because a true music lover who appreciates real Quality cannot possibly dislike this truly exceptional album. |
