I've been a big fan of the Plumps in the past, Saturday Night Lotion was excellent (a good precursor to the current electro sound), whilst a Plump Night Out is still a classic, as is their Fabric mix and Eargasm was good too (despite a couple of duff tracks). So with that in mind I approached this album with some anticipation. Unfortunately it's a big disappointment, the Plumps have tried to change direction a bit and make it more song based. It's a commendable idea but it doesn't come off, and whilst there a couple of good tracks, "System Addict" being the best, but overall it's rather forgettable, except for some of the vocals which are a bit grating. My recommendation would be to download "System Addict" and then check out some of their ... Read More:

After the amazing 12"s "System Addict" and "Torque Of The Devil", some of the best Plump DJs tracks ever, "Headthrash" promised a classic album of evil storming breaks- but in truth it falls a little bit short.
As happened with their previous artist album "Eargasm", the Plump DJs seem to have one eye on the pop market rather than sticking to full-on breaks. The biggest mistake is sticking a rather average indie vocal on "Torque Of The Devil", which ruins it.
Tracks like "He Got Beef" and "Victim" are great, bringing forth the distorted synths and the attitude, but some tracks like "Theme X" and "Lost In Space" veer dangerously towards sounding 'disco'.
Not perfect but enough quality on here to make it worth ... Read More:

oh dear...
eargasm this is not, I'm a plumps fan but this is meandering commercial funky fodder with far too many far too naff vocals.
when I heard system addict I was under the impression that the plumps might be due a return to form after the overly housey saturday night lotion. Unfortunately system is the only real beef in this sandwich, even torque of the devil has been ruined by a completely inexplicable vocal.
if you love breaks, do yourself a favour and get either the new Splitloop album or the Noisia Fabriclive instead.

The plumps are my or should i say were my favorite Breaks outfit and when i herd them play at Snowbombing and they dropped 'Torque of the devil' i was amazed and i was just pulsating inside for more of the same on their new offering, i mean even if the rest of the tracks suck at least Torque of the devil will still be outstanding, right? Wrong! The best track on the album has been ruined by a commercial vocal that sounds so bad and wrong! i can not belive it! so unimpressed with that one.
Next, the album is dotted with commercial beats and vocals that really ruin the plumps sound, I always loved them for their chunky beats and slight use of vocal cuts and phrases on the odd occasion where it really feil right but this album is far to ... Read More:

There were big expectations placed on this album and i feel that the plump's may just have buckled under this pressure.
This album is a bit of a mish mash of styles, although most tracks are unmistakeably plump material, there is no cohesion to the album and it seems to swing between what the plumps are best at (nasty dancefloor tracks) and camp, funky numbers. The singles 'system addict' and 'Torque of the devil' are undoubtledly the best tracks on here, although 'snake eyes' and 'beat myself up' are definately worth a mention too, the rest is sadly passable material. 'He got beef' is a truly awful track with some of the worst suited, grinding vocals ever commited to disc. Apart from some absolutely storming club tracks the rest unfrtunately ... Read More:
