it's hard to write without platitudes when describing this album, so I will limit myself to saying I had it on repeat in the car for a week, travelling to and from work with the Wilburys until I thought I really had to listen to something else ... but why it has been deleted is anyone's guess, short sighted record company? Whoever did it, put it back! You won't find greater talent working together as one anywhere else in the world. They were friends, it shows, the production is first class, the quality exceptional, every track showcasing one or other without show-off egos getting in the way, just a group of people obviously, very obviously, having a wonderful time doing what they did best - making first class music. Buy it.

No Egos, no name checks and no fuss........just a good time spent in their company. That such huge stars could meet up and convince us that this was a bona-fide group and not just a "thrown together" collection of superstar musicians, says it all.
A tremendous catalogue of songs, with stand out hooks, harmonies and vocals. Rarely have the artists themselves sounded better than when they appeared together on this first volume.
You can feel the camaraderie of the group and sense the sparks that must have been flying off the pen when they got together to write and record this album.
Unfortunately, the deaths of some of the group means that this can never be repeated, which, after listening to Vol. 3, is not ... Read More:

There is not a bad song on this album! The tracks stand head and shoulders above anything today in terms of how well-written and performed they are. This album reflects the fact that the band was composed of some of the most talented performers of the 20th century. I suspect that the quality of the melodies was down to Roy Orbison as Volume 3, recorded after his death, is not a patch on this one. The previous reviewer is right; if you can find a copy of this album, BUY IT! as it will be one of the best investments you'll ever make, AND your ears will thank you for it!

Is this the best album ever made??? I reckon it might just well be. Great tracks all the way through, great musicianship. Im fortunate to own a copy of the original vol 1 on CD and I have seen it go for as much as £50 on E-bay. If there is a bona fide copy of vol 1 for sale on here and its reasonably priced, you'd be daft not to purchase it as its a classic. Plus you'll have your hands on a very valuable CD!!
Its no longer in print, thats why its worth a lot. I have read that there is abox set forthcoming at some point, but this is the original and I reccomend it as a purchase. Vol 3 is nowhere near as good and is not really such a welcome edition to your collection as this one.

My ex-husband bought this 20 years ago because he was a Roy Orbison fan. Surprisingly I liked it straight off. Now 20 years later I have managed to buy a cd version. I am not a fan of any of the singers but this album has to be one of the best out there. It has something for everyone and you cant help but sing or dance along. On a really bad day it is guarenteed to cheer you up. If you ever get the chance to listen to it please do so, I guarentee you will end up buying it; maybe not straight away, but a couple of days later you will find yourself humming/singing at least one of the songs. Its haunted me for twenty years, at last I can play it to my hearts content!!!!
