 Rating:  - Sit back and listenI've recently gotten back into live music and have seen a number of new and old bands over recent months. What I've found is that there is lots of good old stuff and lots of reasonble new stuff, but nothing that affected me like the first time I heard Queensryche, Thunder or Counting Crows (I have very varied tastes!). I too saw Shinedown performing Devour on Scuzz and I went straight to YouTube for a couple of further examples of their music. Anyway, the album arrived from Amazon-Germany within a few days and it is quite simply the best thing I've heard in years. The one-star review on this page should not put you off; unfortunately that author was expecting something that Shinedown aren't about. If on the other hand you're looking for Rock ... Read More: Rating: - Great Rock AlbumHave just received this cd in the post today (much faster than advised)from a US Amazon Seller (better price), after a trying to get it from HMV, only to be told there was a mistake on their website, and they were only doing the normal version. Have not heard any of this groups previous albums, but looked into them after seeing the video for 'Devour' on the Scuzz channel. This is a really good album (produced by Rob Cavallo, of American Idiot and The Black Parade fame !), and the tracks that jump out immediately, other than Devour, are Second Chance and Call Me. This isnt hard rock at all, its almost something that could make its way into the charts. I ama lover of Trivium, BFMV, Stonesour etc, i consider these bands to be hard rock and shinedown dont come close to these at all. they are not even in the same category. I can understand why people like it but its just not my cup of tea and for those out there who like proper hard rock and i cant help but think this will just let you down. Rating: - Quite Brilliant Hard Rock...Shinedown, fronted by Brent Smith have hit the musical nail on the head with this quite superb record. How a band like this struggles so much to gain much attention outside of the USA is incredible. Lead single "Devour" is probably to best hard rock song i've heard this year, with song's like "Sin With A Grin" and "Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide" equally as brilliant. As is standard on most hard rock records these days, Shinedown throw in some quite beautiful ballads, the best of these being "Second Chance" which without question should be this album's second single. Hard rock album of year? Absolutely. Hard rock album of the decade? Quite possibly. Rating: - Madness..Anyone already familiar with Shinedown will realise the talent lead singer Brent Smith has, and he uses it to the full degree in this stunning album. They say they wanted it to be harder and their previous albums, but that hasn't affected the creativity and quality of the band. They haven't strayed too far from what made them great in their first two albums, they still have that spine of Shinedown, but there's an extra edge which appears from a quicker tempo and heavy rhythem, brilliantly constructed around non-typical and inventive lyrics. From the truely upbeat Devour and Cry For Help, to the more progressive What A Shame and Breaking Inside, this is as complete an album as I've ever heard. I've recommended several friends ...
