So, after the fantastic Touch My Body we now have Bye Bye, a song that follows very much in that same vein of smooth, sophisticated modern R&B that Mariah does so well. Where Bye Bye succeeds is in its instantly appealing melody, all twinkling piano's over a crisp beat that has 'classic Mariah ballad' written all over it.
In fact, i think i actually prefer Bye Bye to the lead single - it gives Mariah more space to show off her amazing voice, fill the song with feeling and on the whole just presents a song where every element has come together perfectly to create a song that in many ways recalls Mariah's mega-hit 'We Belong Together'. A heart rendering ballad that's gonna pull your heart strings apart. A classic ballad aimed at a lost loved one, which everybody can relate too in life i'm sure. This is classic Mariah and should find it's way too the top of the charts here, get a photo of your lost loved one put it on the mantle piece, place this cd in your stereo and weep. It's so beautiful, too ignore it would be criminal and make you a hard person, get your emotions going on to this track, it's perfect. Yet again, Mariah has belted the rest out of the way, and taken the gold medal. Love it.

`Bye Bye' is a coy ballad about losing someone close to you, it contains memorable hooks, and flowing lyrics that certainly fit the subject matter, this song compared to some of Carey's past work, (certainly on the balladry side) is much less dramatic, she has toned down the belting, and decorating the song with fancy high notes, but instead she has resorted to simplicity in getting her message across, for Carey this meant good use of lyrics, and inviting hooks.
Overall a triumphant return, and as per usual leading the way in the music front.
