Editorial Review:
From Amazon.com: The Band that Fogerty Built was truly an American phenomenon during their relatively short recording career. Each of their albums, beginning with 1969's Bayou Country, was a Top 40 hit-making machine. Willy & the Poor Boys produced two smashes--"Down on the Corner" (which is about the fictional black street group that gave the album its title) and "Fortunate Son," Fogerty's most ferocious political rant. Each LP was a concept collection of sorts, and this one was a tribute to the South, featuring two traditional standards popularized by Leadbelly as well as two instrumentals that made you swear CCR were from New Orleans rather than Oakland, California. --Bill Holdship

As much as I love this band and this album, Fantasy have been truly mean when it comes to extras. Even with the 3 additional tracks, the album still only weighs in at 43 minutes. There's clearly more material in the vaults, leaving this a missed opportunity.

I was expecting a lot of filler following a strong beginning, but it just didn't come. The songs that seem to have come in for the most stick- Feeling Blue and Effigy- have become two of my personal favourites, the latter in particular I ... Read More:

As such this album was a worthy follow-up to Green river. With 2 hitsingles and 4 other magnificent tracks: It came out of the sky, Midnight special, Don't look now and Cotton fields available on the Chronicle vol.1 and 2, this album leaves us with 4 more country-influenced tracks/instrumentals that are not core CCR material, Feeling blue is catchy though. So it remains only for completists.
