 Rating: - 62 disco tracks for your pleasureThis triple CD pack is a must have for the lover of commercial disco music. Altogether you're getting 62 songs here in their original glory (no re-recordings). The total running time for the full package is 3 hours and 50 minutes. Some compilation packages of this size contain a few classics (usually at the very start and the very end) and then fill it up with unknown or very obscure stuff. That isn't the case here. Yes, there are a couple of 'unknowns' to me, but they actually helped me to find new songs which I'd never come across or rediscover a few gems that I hadn't heard for many years. Most tracks across the 3 CDs are indeed disco classics - the big names are all here from Chic to Odyssey and from Barry White ... Well, this collection does it differently: it puts the fun back into disco by picking out all the tunes that you have long forgotten about, all those you remember as being vaguely embarrassing, and then sprinkles in a strong selection of the classics for those who have never bought a disco collection before. I would have cringed at the disco Star Wars in my youth, but had to play it three times when I played the compellation. Truly shows what a fogey I've become! I already own most of them on vinyl but they've been played so many times over the years that they are almost worn out! Whoever compiled this deserves a big THANK YOU for such an amazing compilation! Only downfall is the horrific "Yes sir I can boogie" by that terrible duo Baccara. Still, this track did reach the top of the UK charts in 1977, so there must be lots of people who liked it I guess! Rating: - A Disco Delight!This is probably the best disco compilation to be released for many years. The 3CD set contains some gems like Leif Garrett, Raffaella Carra and La Belle Epoque (although 'Black is Black' is a 12" mix and not the single). I have bought dozens of disco collections but I will play this one more than the rest I suspect. (On another note, isn't it funny how you wait for ages for a song like 'Do it, do it again' to come out on CD and within days it appears on 2 different compilations as it's also on '70s Dinner Party'. Perhaps the inclusion of the video on a recent Doctor Who episode propelled it back to people's minds?) Anyway, buy this set and you won't be disappointed! |
