Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: When you’ve been away from the stand-up comedy game for a decade, it’s understandable that some may fear that your finest days are behind you. However, Frank Skinner Stand-up shows that it really doesn’t always have to be like that. In short, this is a blistering return to the stage for one of Britain’s very best stand-up comedians. Frank Skinner Stand-Up was filmed in 2007 at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena, to a crowd of around 5,500 people. Not that you’d ever really know it, as Skinner’s gig makes it all feel so much more intimate. Whether he’s talking about his ‘romantic’ liaisons, singing songs about terrorists or musing on the state of his mind, it’s a razor-tight set, and a very, very funny one. What Frank Skinner Stand-Up also manages to get across through is the man’s quite brilliant delivery. Camera close ups really get this across, but the timing and tone in which he tells his stories and fires out his punchlines is masterclass material. Too often written off as a rude and crude performance, Frank Skinner in this gig proves once and for all that he’s one of the cleverest, funniest and most accomplished comedians in the country.  Rating:  - A Class ActI have always liked Frank Skinner,his observations are funny,clever and so true!! If you couple that with his relaxed,casual,could be talking to a mate in the pub type delivery,its perfect,is there any other comic who appears so natural and at home on a stage? I disagree that there is to much sex material? Surely every one can relate to that?? I know I could could,and Im glad personally that the football stuff is practically non existant in this one,not every bloke loves football! I hope he is back with a new tour soon,or even every year,as laugh for laugh, Frank is one of our finest comedians.Much prefer him over some of the not very funny new ones..... Absolutely brilliant.Nice one Frank! Rating:  - Not good enough FrankI have been a fan of Frank Skinner for many years enjoying his particular form of whit. I had high expectation that after ten years he would come up with something great, sadly this was not to be. At least eighty percent of this video refers to his rather sordid sex life in a rather unpleasant way. I find it rather sad when a fifty year old man has to rely on his past exploits. Tacky yes, funny no. Come on Frank, you can do better than this, what has happened to that cutting edge stuff you used to do - close to the edge but no going over it. Rating: - As good as everWell he's still got it! After ten years in the wilderness as the new Parkie, our Frank returns to the stage and he's as good as ever. All young comedians should watch this and take notes. Especially the three Russells! Rating:  - 3 & a half starsI hadn't realized it was Frank's first stand up for 10 years. He is one of my favorite comics, especially his work on Fantasy Football, Unplanned and his talk show. So, is the DVD funny? Indeed it is. So why only 3.5 stars? Well, the material is not very broad. Frank spends too much time on sex, or more so, his sexual experiences, in graphic detail. About 70% of the act in fact! It's all very funny but he could have moved on to something different just to break it up. A lack of material is apparent. The best comics on their day cover a lot more day to day misgivings. His visuals and timing are spot on however, and he writes a good song too while playing the banjo. His encounter with a horse was a highlight. He closes ... Frank is a comedy genius - have seen him a few times and he always has me laughing till tears are streaming down my face. Brilliant! |
