 Rating:  - Poor, weak and offensiveA very poorly researched piece. What is basically a propaganda film for intelligent design at no point actually explains what intelligent design is. It ignores completely how academia in Science actually works and also ignores 150 years of research on Evolution instead presuming it is only Darwin who ever spoke on it. What do they make of DNA? The part about Darwinism leading to events such as the Holocaust were just plain offensive. It is a vast over-simplification but is irrelevant to the question of whether Evolution is the truth. The basic argument from this was that we should allow intelligent design to be taught instead of Evolution because Evolution can lead to such evils. Contrary to the whole apparant point of the documentary. Rating:  - Irony How ironic that it used to be the creationists of the American south who used to be accused of bigotry by not allowing evolution to be taught in the classroom. How things have changed since the scopes monkey trial. Bigotry is alive and well but now existing on the other side. The pendulum has swung full over. It is now Intelligent design which is not allowed to be taught in schools and as this DVD so clearly shows any teacher or professor who even mentions it as a possible alternative viewpoint had better watch out for his job. Has America learned nothing from the Macarthy era? Witch-hunts, whether conducted by the church against Darwin or conducted by Dawkins against ID is not going to get us any closer to the truth. Rating: - Absolutely Historic DocumentaryFrankly speaking, I think that 'Expelled' will turn out to be a film of enormous historic importance, how good or how bad it may be. Never before the hot question of the truth or lie of darwinian evolution has been presented in such a prestigious fashion before. Although the film is clearly in favour of Intelligent Design, it does not solve the question. It only shows the abuse of power of the academic establishment, that has entrenched itself in an atheistisc position and has need of evolution as a creation myth. Intolerant and snobbish academism clearly has deserved this film, no matter what the real scientific truth is. This was the first one out of the gate this year. This documentary purports to follow actor Ben Stein around as he looks into the charges of blacklisting by the scientific community of scientists who support Intelligent Design. It starts with a few examples of those fired from their jobs or had grants pulled for even daring to mention the name. From there he explores what Intelligent Design is, if there are any potential stumbling blocks for Evolution, and the long term effects of belief in Evolution. It clearly and courageously demonstrates (with humour) (and in cases which can be verified) that there is a diminishing freedom to discuss origins in our Colleges and Universities, and that in reality the philosophy of atheistic humanism has to be bowed to in order to maintain one's position or achieve promotion if you are working in the natural sciences and close to the area of origins.
