 Rating: - Donny Hathaway live magic!!soul/jazz im in heaven with this album its fab he could sing wow!! buy this if you love soul/jazz/funk its fantastic donny R.I.P ALSO BUY HIS ALBUMS EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING AND DONNY HATHAWAY AND EXTENTION OF A MAN ALL FANTASTIC!! Rating: - This is how it's doneAn extraordinary performance of spine-tingling, emotional, live soul-jazz. One of the best examples of live music I've ever heard. Donny Hathaway's incredible voice & intense piano playing, the extremely tight band, a tangible atmosphere and the audience lending a strong voice give this work such intensity. The way the audience fill in for the absent Roberta Flack on "You've Got A Friend" is simply magical. The way Donny builds "The Ghetto" into exciting peaks. AND Donny's jazzy version of "What's Going On" is perfection. This album has been in my top 5 for many years. I would especially recommend it for fans of Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, or Stevie Wonder. Rating: - A Soul man at his peakDonny Hathaway never got the chance to see how big a star he could have been his untimely death robbed him of the chance to make more great music. And judging by this album, there was plenty to come. Donny Hathaways studio albums always contained a wide variety (and a couple of easy listening low points) but here is distilled the soul of the man. For me this is the best live soul album ever (yes even better than JB Live at the Appolo and Aretha at the Fillmore)and the live versions of "Everything is Everything" and "The Ghetto" better the already excellent studio versions. Just listen to the call and response audience participation from the latter - if anyone wants to know what is Soul, then play them this ... Read More: Rating:  - Great early 70s jazz funkMore jazz than funk to be honest! This album really creates an atmosphere in the way that Marvin Gaye & Leon Ware's albums could. In some ways, Donny uses his voice as another instrument, seeming to almost blend away from hearing but still contributing to the overall 'feel'. The voice is warm & mellow, not unlike Marvin & Leon's. The feel is loose, relaxed & jazzy, with the live shows sounding great & you almost being there. Definately one to buy if you like sensual 'mood' music! Rating: - Fantastic!Take it from me a complete nut on Rare Groove and Soul this album is one of the best you could ever wish to find. Im not a huge fan overall of Hathaway but this is a classic. And probably a Live concert with the best singalong crowd ever |
