Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Eric Roberts

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - excellent movie but ....
No point adding to what is already well cronicled in terms of the movie itself and the acting etc but be aware if you have the blu ray version of this that there are audio "issues" which have been documented on several forums of a/v experts.
The bass and special efefcts sounds pack such a hell of a punch that it could damage your speaker set up if you have a budget system - the other problem is the audio when listening to the actors speak - it is barely audible and muffled in many sequences and you will find yourself cranking the volume up to try and hear what they are saying only to have your eardrums shattered and holes blasted through your walls by a sudden special FX explosion - if this is the case for you - set your a/v receiver ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mindless reviews beware this is all fact
Greatest superhero movie of all time and even possibly the best movie of all time. The Blu Ray features are great and it looks amazing on a HD or SD TV.

I would like to write a review without mentioning Heath Ledger but it is impossible because from an acting stand point it is his movie. I don't say that because he died but he is undoubtedly the best actor in this movie his unrelenting portrayal of the Joker as a psychopathic anarchist is the best acting in a movie I have ever seen in my life. Thats not to say that all the other actors were poor both Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart were both phenomenal as well but Ledger took it a step further creating the character in such minute detail that you can't help being amazed. I know ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome
Really great film, and Heath Ledger acts brilliantly, as do all the others. Some have said the Joker overshadows Batman, but I don't think that's true, you still know exactly who is the main character. Haven't looked at the special features yet, so I can't comment on that, but the change in AR isn't a problem, it adds to it. The big, outdoor scenes use the whole TV, giving you much more detail and a sense of quality, and you don't even notice when it switches back as it's usually in a dark scene. I definitely wouldn't have realised if I didn't know about it beforehand. One thing, though, this is my first blu-ray disc and so I was expecting 4x the picture quality and all that jazz, but I didn't see heaps of difference between this and a DVD. That ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Stunning Film
I am going to start by saying this is my favourite film of all time. Heith Ledgers performance is spectacular and has a plot to match

If you have not seen it, you must buy it, it is stunning especially in blu ray.
If you have seen it, in blu ray the quality is superb, by far the best blu ray among my collection.

Enjoyment: 10
Plot: 10
Acting: 10
Humour: 10
Special features: 10

Overall: 10!

A must buy film, this will last for generations as a classic film with a superb plot, stunning visuals and nobel prize winning acting.
To be fair, £15 is a snip for the quality!
Special features in this 2 disc edition are ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "Some men just want to watch the world burn in 720p"
I originally brought the standard-DVD version of the film, before jumping on the Blu Ray wagon and buying a Samsung P1500 player.

There was me, disappointed that my P1500 player was outputting 'soft' pictures at 720p. Then I brought the Blu Ray version of this film - bloody hell! Outstanding picture quality and the best-quality film soundtrack I've had playing through my meagre hi-fi from any movie in my DVD collection.

Oh yeah, the film itself isn't too bad either :-)
