 Rating:  - Darkness in the rural heartlandsHaving found himself artistically on 2001's A Pretty Good Guy singer-songwriter Chris Knight shook off the major label production of his 1998 self-titled debut and wallowed in his dark visions of rural life. His follow-ups, including a startling album of pre-debut auditions, The Trailer Tapes, have stuck to a similar format of rootsy guitar-based productions backing unblinking chronicles of blue collar America. Knight is often likened to Steve Earle, and the hopelessness in his songs brings to mind Earle's Guitar Town-era work; but where Earle wrote of kids trapped by the stilted imaginations of limited experience, Knight writes of adults trapped by circumstance and situation. Offering the same southern alt rock and country vibes in his music, lyrics and vocals as Mellencamp does, he is no less a light for it and should share equal billing in your music collection. Rating:  - Chris deliver's again!!More well written, high standard Country Roots Rock (CRR - is this a coincidence this is very similar to CCR?) from the Kentucky singer/songwriter. as ever, Chris combines plenty of rock guitar with great melodies and modern, meaningful lyrics. I might be a typical Glaswegian but the music and lyrics still hit the spot - if I was American I would probable come from East Kentucky. If your not convinced or dont know who he is ("the new Steve Earle") listen to a few tracks on My Space Kevin Brown the Kentucky Glaswegian. |
