Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - No, you bring it to me, David
Whitesnake albums tend to be a mixture of spirituality and debauchery. This album is dominated by the latter and 'Wine, Women And Song' might just as easily have made a fitting title track. It's also a frustrating album, consistently close to greatness yet almost always falling short. Essentially, the Whitesnake of 1981, when this was released, were a fine band, a team personified by their star frontman and owner, David Coverdale. But the tracks are mostly either blighted by average content or a sluggish performance.

The strutting menace of 'Don't Break My Heart Again' is the highlight of the album. 'Would I Lie To You' is another major asset, its sexual mischief being more representative of the album's lyrical content. The rest ... Read More:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Maddeningly average...
"Come An' Get It" is not a bad album, it's just not particularly good either.
It does have its moments - "Don't Break My Heart Again" is a fine, catchy rocker, "Would I Lie To You" gets a really good groove going, and the piano-driven barroom boogie of "Wine, Women And Song" is good fun. But the rest is indistinctive...hard to fault, perhaps, but even harder to praise.
"Child Of Babylon" tries to be epic and can't quite pull it off, and the remanining six songs are simply mediocre, run-of-the mill rock songs without the hooks that made "Ready An' Willing", "Saints & Sinners" and "Slide It In" such great records.
Three very small stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Whitesnake at their best
Worth buying just for the picture on the cover isn't it?... no?
well, it's got a lot more than just a cool picture on the front. This album, in my view, is undoutably the best Whitesnake record ever!
Highlights, for me, include the title track, "wine, women and song", "Child of Babylon" and "Hit An' Run"
There isn't one bad song on it, so if you haven't got it, add it to your collection now!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My favourite Whitesnake album
This was the album that first turned me on to Whitesnake back in '81. Or rather, it was the song "Don't Break My Heart Again". In my opinion, that number has one of the coolest openings of any Whitesnake song. -To this day I still remember the feeling when I first heard it on the radio, with Lord's organ (and the other guys) blasting out of the speakers. Excellent stuff. It may not be their best song, but it will always be a favourite of mine. "Wine, Women & Song", and "Would I Lie To You" (no, not the bloody Eurythmics song !) also stand out. There really isn't a weak track on this CD, they're all brilliant. I could never understand why Whitesnake were thrown into the heavy metal pot, because they were not a heavy metal band. Stupid journalists ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The last great early Snakes record?
The band went into Startling Studios at the tail end of 1980/early 1981 and recorded one of the early greats alongside the classic 'Ready An' Willing'. Released in April 1981 and entering the UK chart at number 2 this was early Whitesnake (pre 'Slide It In' or the Marsden years) at their peak. The most gobsmacking tracks of this 100,000 seller were more often than not written solely by David Coverdale, an example of his ever growing prowess. This was a cock sure Whitesnake, confident from the success of 'Ready An' Willing', effortlessly knocking out vintage blues rock. Stand out tracks are in abundance; 'Child Of Babylon' (epic song showing off DC at his best, some of the most frightening singing you'll ever hear), the grooving title track and the ... Read More:
