The Best of Vaya Con Diosby: Vaya Con Dios Release Date January 17, 2000 Sung with a deep and melodramatic voice, these tracks have an unmistakable feel of cabaret about them - but in a cool, Edith Piaf/Jacques Brel sort of way. Doleful accordions weep in the background as Dani Klein's alto tells tales of bad men and desperate love, and you can imagine nighthawks slouching over their absinthe in, as one track specifies, "a sleazy part of town". Very Edward Hopper. They pull it off, though. All this seedy, sexy, tango-ish over-the-top melancholia actually works. Just about every song on this CD is instantly recognisable.
