Kid A is a strange one. I suspect Radiohead wanted to make their very own Remain In Light. To their credit Kid A is a very fine album, simultaneously diverse and cohesive. Like Remain In Light it is an album full of stylistic experiments, The National Anthem is post punk meets free jazz, How To Disappear Completely is an acoustic ballad with orchestration inspired by Penderecki, Kid A is an IDM lullaby. I am genuinely impressed by how often these experiments yield unique and wonderful results. Interestingly it is the comparitively straightforward guitar-based songs such as In Limbo that seem insubstantial and weak rather than the electronic ones. Kid A is languid, beautiful and unique.
