In the Court of the Crimson Kingby: King Crimson Release Date November 15, 2004 Its probably fair to say that like me, most peoples introduction to King Crimson would have been via the island sampler "Nice enough to eat". '21st century schizoid man' with it's memorable riff, strange vocals and free flowing uptempo jazzy midsection took the rock world by storm. The rest of this album however is reserved for some amazing rock ballads, heavily laden with haunting, hypnotic mellotron. 'Epitaph' and 'In the court of the crimson king' are nothing short of epic, while 'I talk to the wind' is short and sweet. 'Moonchild' starts in the same vein but veers off into an overlong sounds experiment which gets a bit boring after a while, but in spite of that this is most definitely a 5 star album. |
