Live CBGB's NYC 1998by: Alec Empire vs. Merzbow Release Date July 15, 2003 Merzbow purists will hate this release, but for anyone, like myself, who isn't sure how deep they want to go into the scary world of noise, this monolithic live recording should do fine. Accompanying Mr. Akita is Atari Teenage Riot's Alec Empire; the Ying to Merz's Yang. This is rhythm vs. noise; an unholy battle between two musicians with a similarly visionary outlook on music, yet completely different ways of achieving it. Merzbow has, according to the liner notes, an "Aztec Doomsday device" capable of producing gigantic black walls of sound, leaving Alec to lay down beat after beat onto the poor, poor individuals in the audience.
