It was, however, this fragmentory nature (fuelled by key man Mustaine's explosive nature and destructive behaviour) that was the root source for such benchmark thrash albums as 'Peace Sells' and 'Rust in Peace'. However, 'Countdown' in '92 marked the arrival of Nick Menza (drums) and Marty Freidman (guitar), who would both stick around for the next three albums. This new-found solidarity, combined with Mustaines neo-Christian attitudes after a drink-and-drugs near-death experience mellowed the band: musicianship was up, but fury and sheer weight of noise was down.
