Buddy and Claudeby: Buddy Tate Release Date April 16, 2001 "Buddy and Claude" - an odd choice for a title as "Claude" actually only plays on seven of the disc's thirteen tracks - is a compilation of two albums originally recorded in 1960 for the Swingville label, both of which feature esrtwhile Count Basie saxophonist, Buddy Tate. The first half, a session that combines Tate with trumpeter Emmett Berry - another Basie graduate - and Sidney Bechet's pianist Claude Hopkins, is a middling affair, outstanding only in its mediocrity. No-one seems prepared to grab the tried-and-tested material and make something interesting of it.
