Critics have selected this as being one of the best issues in a series devoted to some of the principal singers of the C20th. I never heard much of the work of the Belgian soprano Suzanne Danco (1911-2000) either in performance or on record, but she was clearly and gifted and intelligent singer. I get a sense that not only have all note values, phrasing and dynamics been thoroughly studied, but also that ways of articulating words been mastered to ensure that both music and text are fully conveyed. You'll notice this as you listen to the first tack. The Belgian soprano's English is clearer than that of many a home grown product.
