Like Jethro Tull, thirty years before them, Mostly Autumn seemed to start out with the bloody minded intention of being as unfashionable as possible. All credit to them for that. Unlike Tull, however, there is nothing remotely progressive about them. Anyone who thinks this lot are progressive rockers needs to get hold of all the Van der Graaf Generator and most of the Gentle Giant albums as a matter of extreme urgency. True, a couple of the pieces are quite long, but the time signatures and changes all seem very conventional. 'Pop-prog' or 'prog-lite' might be an appropriate label.
