After downloading a few Goldfinger tracks I decided it was time to buy an album. I'd noticed the popular case of 'their first album's the best' applied here again, so I thought I jump in at the beginning. I'm pleased I did, and this punk rock/ska album doesn't fail to disappoint.
After my first listen through the only tracks that really said much to me were 'Here in Your Bedroom' and 'Mable', both of which are brilliant, really bouncy tunes. Thankfully, other tracks pulled through that make the rest worthwhile.
A few more listens and I settled into the other tracks. There are some great chanting choruses included throughout the album. 'Minds Eye' is a lively opener that sets the scene well. 'Answers' is a great one, with a hint of anger in it whilst maintaining a ska sound which comes off really well. Most of the tracks are fairly fast paced, with the exception of 'My Girlfriend's Shower Sucks' and 'King for a Day'. The latter has turned out to be my current favourite track with a great transition from relaxed singing to a burst of punk rock. There's also a notable hidden track included which takes a similar approach entitled, erm... "**** You and Your Cat", ending the album brilliantly! The songs have some underlying comedy in them which can make intentive listening a bit more fun too.
If you're looking into buying a Goldfinger album and you've already had some experience of them this debut is a great choice. However if you're newer to the band you might do better looking into their next album 'Hang-Ups'. None of the songs here are weak. The only track that I'm not particularly keen on is 'The City with Two Faces' in which there's no ska influence, the singer uses a harsher toned voice, and starts talking halfway through the song which I've never liked. Regardless, I recommend this album. It's a great blend of punk rock and ska and there's bound to be a few tracks that you'll enjoy!!

Yes, it rocks. Completely. I believe this is the band's best piece of work. With a fast, loud, intense and smooth feeling, this is one of my favourite albums.

This ska punk 1996 classic is what went down as one of the bibles of the punk world, along with Dookie and Smash this is truly an idol of a genre. As the first song bursts over your speakers you're already hooked. Feel your self whipped along to the rhythm like a baby in a mosh pit. The best track by far is Here in Your Bedroom, this 1995 smash sent the US clamouring for more, jumping around, falling over and probably suing. This bouncy little beauty will have you pogoing for months and practising jumping really high in the air whilst holding a guitar so you can look cool. Because of this the album truly has the potential to embarrass you while you prance round in your pants before bed time and see people staring at you from across the road. Every tune is pure quality, influences of the Smiths, the Jam, the Clash and Madness shine through in nearly every tune, it's impossible to not enjoy.
Rating: - The best
This is Goldfingers first but best album. Alough the other three are all amazing this is even better. The best songs are Mable, Anxiety and Miles Away. If you like punk or ska its a must.

I brought all the goldfinger albums in reverse order. Stomping Ground is amazing, then Darrins Coconut Ass is average but Hang Ups is the best. The first one still has the classics "Mable" and "here in your bedroom".If you're just a light goldfinger fan and haven't got any albums, then i'd get Hang Ups, Stomping Ground and the Goldfinger. It's still a five star because you can't give the others more than 5 stars. You always come back to listen to those 2 songs and the others are still good. MAKE MORE ALBUMS GOLDFINGER!!!!!!
