Don't be fooled by some of the pretentious drivel spouted in other reviews.......this is absolute cack !!
Save the planet....don't waste money on this because it will be in a land fill after one play !!
....and yes....I am very open minded.
1 star because the site wouldn't let me give it zero.

This album is the most amazing achievement in the genre of rock, though you need a wide listening experience to understand it straight away. Persevere.

As the good Captain once said 'most people want you to see the world through their eyes' applying this observation to the aural presentation of 'Trout Mask Replica' you'd be hard pushed to find a more deconstructed view of 'popular' music than the tracks of this album reveal.
Having grown up singing the (required) sea shanties of primary school, I began listening to the poetry and syncopation of Delta Blues in my early teens as a relief from the blandness of most mid-sixties pop. Post summer(s)of love, I remember heading off for 'uni' with a copy of John Lee Hooker's 'House Of The Blues'(Riverside Recordings)under my arm - pretty much a 'keep-your-distance-I-know-my-stuff' act. I'd bought 'Safe As Milk' and loved the growling 'Electricty'. Peel's 'perfumed garden' was seminal to my 'underground' persona - I generally avoided the British music scene seeking obscura americana to replace JLH as underarm advertising. Then, in the first term, a mate came to my room bearing Trout Mask Replica. Two days later I'd stopped using albums as a badges and realised that I was a musical no-body and I've never looked back since.
Reviewers who fail to give this album less than five stars, have a different understanding of the history of pop to me. All anyone can do is tell it from their perspective.
Trout Mask Replica represents all that is good and great about art but, of course, if you don't love it I can't give you my ears - or my history - you'll have to get by with your own.
In 1969 TMR (concept & realisation) was as unbelievable as a manned landing on the moon. And, if you'll excuse my smugness, no-one's managed to do either successfully since.

In terms of tone and cultural significance it is the aural equivalent of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I listened to it in front of the Antiques Roadshow with the sound off, a bag of lemon bon bons and a shonky spiff and here's something I don't mind telling you music lover ... it were a proper treat ... "When Big Joan comes out her arms are too small, her head like a ball, she tied off her horse and galloped off into the moonbeams, she pulled up her blouse and compared her navel to the moon ..." I don't know who she is but my geography teacher was called Joan so I like to think it's about her.

if you haven't already heard this and are thinking of buying it,do yourself a favour(and have a good laugh too)by reading the reviews here and on the US Amazon site.
Yes,you'll either hate it or love it.Everyone and his mother in the world of music likes to use words like "unique",but this is one of the few CDs you'll ever hear that deserves that accolade.Zappa,the producer,called it delta blues crossed with free jazz,and that's about as good a description as anyone's.
So,before you buy it,try and listen to someone else's copy,then decide,because nothing you've ever heard before will prepare you for this.Me,I think it's fantastic,but I first heard it when my brain was chemically altered,so what do I know?
