- The quintessential Cream.
Yes there are other albums and singles that may strike your fancy. But this one is the first to come to mind when mentioning Cream. It is too bad that the samples stop before "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" as each track is unique. Therefore you have to listen to them all to get a more complete picture of this group.
Warning this album is addictive I find my self singing, “Sunshine of Your Love" a little too loud at work and then I hear others completing the words from other cubes.
Rating: - Definitive music
Don't read too much hype on this band. Put simply, they were the definitive heavy rock group - they 'wrote the book' and others simply tried to follow.
They made only four albums, all four were outstanding and original, all are as fresh and solid today as they were when made.
Cream cannot be followed, which may well be the reason for the 'musical desert' since they disbanded.
Don't waste money on compilations and 'live' alternatives - buy the original four albums, and you don't every need to buy another CD.
Perfection.
Rating: - Disraeli Gears - Psychedelia Perfected
This is one of the most influential records ever, and single handedly capture the feel of the late 60's. Eric Clapton's phenominal guitar is as good as it ever has been, fusing blues, rock and a healthy dose of psychedelia he created some of the most memorable riffs ever.
From the intro to "Strange Brew" to the widly hailed "Sunshine of Your Love" (So good Hendrix covered live it even though he didn't know the words) to moody smokey blues covers to the traditonal "Mothers Lament".
It's a great album, with top notch musicianship, and for those of you asking "Why is Clapton God?" this will be another step towards realising why. Only 3 or 4 other guitarists can claim the same kind of influence Clapton has. That's it.

- Going back in time ....
Disraeli Gears was the first LP I bought, so you can see I'm not a youngster. It remained a favourite until it dissappeared from over-playing. I'm now going back to the music I liked around the late 60's, early 70's and its great to find it is all so cheap now!
This is still a great album, the musicianship was wonderful and is a testement to the three members of Cream. Someone mentioned that Jimi Hendrix was a fan, so much so that when he appeared on Top of the Pops (!!) to play 'All along the watchtower', he changed his mind and played 'Sunshine of your love' instead. What a tribute.

This album shows just how brilliant The Cream were, recording tracks ranging from "Born under a bad sign" to the hilarious "Mother's Lament" involving all three members putting on cockney accents (well ginger already had one) and singing about the ill fortune of a mother with a very thin child. Disraeli Gears proves that the Cream were on of the greatest bands of their time even Hendrix thought they were amazing! Buy this album with all haste you won't regret it!
