Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Have You Experienced?
This has to be one of the best first albums every released. It introduced sounds previously unheard from the guitar. It hard to imagine that this album was brought to us in 1966, nearly 40 years ago and it still sounds so good today. Jimi Hendrix brought an entirely new focus on the guitar with outstanding blues on Redhouse to the radical backward tracks on the title track. Jimi will be best remembered for his liver performances and probably quite right, but lets not forget where the experience began.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Get Experienced
The album that launched The Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1967. I think Axis Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland are much better but this is, in the main, fantastic nonetheless.
The highly slinky Foxy Lady and the rumbustious Manic Depression get things off to a great start leading to the excellent, power blues Red House.
Can You See Me is another excellent pop song with some fine drumming from Mitch Mitchell.
The following Love Or Confusion is not a favourite however, despite some fairly impressive guitar noodlings from The Man. I Dont Live Today too is not one of Jimi's best either, in fact its downright poor.
May This Be Love is basically a "trippy" ballad which almost comes off but there are a few uncomortable moments. Fire is a great early Hendrix rocker with punchy vocals and drumming. Third Stone From The Sun is a bit of a weird journey with some neat bits along the way. Clearly a forerunner of the brilliant 1983, A Merman I Shall Turn To Be on Electric Landlady.
The almost catchy Remember comes next but again is not one of the most memorable. The closing Are You Experienced opens with typical saw like guitar sounds but the music is let down by a rather poor, almost absent, vocal tune.
The six bonus tracks are all top quality. The guitar break on Highway Chile is just awesome.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not necessarily stoned, but... beautiful.
Jimi Hendrix's first album release in his own right, ably supported by Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass, "Are You Experienced?" is an album which ushered in a whole new era of guitar-hero excesses and, more importantly, heralded the arrival of the greatest electric guitar player the world has known.

However, albums cannot rely on influence only as a reason for their existance, and it is always worth remembering that, aside from the plaudits heaped upon it year after year by every half-baked rock journalist, "Are You Experienced?" is a great album to listen to, packed with well-written and superlatively-played material.

The best-known tracks need no introduction, from the erotic broadsiding of "Foxy Lady" to the breakneck soul-funk of "Fire", from the catacalysmic title song to the aural avalanche of "Manic Depression". Alongside such timeless nuggets, though, are more reflective, beautiful songs such as "Remember" and "May This Be Love", which show up Hendrix's insecurities as a singer for the poppycock they were.

Any enthusiast of rock music, old or new, ought to own Hendrix's entire Experience Hendrix catalogue (although the countless compilations, reissues of session material and the like can be avoided), and, having done so, should check out the fine rare material available online via said company. If you're a neophyte, there's no better place to start than this album. If you're not yet experienced, what are you waiting for?

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - First and Freshest Album From Guitar Legend
This re-packaging of the Experience's first studio album finally amalgamates all the tracks from the original UK and US 1967 releases, the bonus for those who previously owned only the UK version being the inclusion of six additional tracks previously released only as singles.

Veering from ouright psychadelia (the title track and Third Stone From The Sun for example) to straightforward blues (Red House) and in the meantime taking in some "finger clicking" pop (Remember), this is Hendrix at the peak of his creative ability. The guitarist was still in his "eager to please" phase thus allowing producer Chas Chandler to do a superb job of complementing Hendrix's explosive talent and personality whilst at the same time reigning-in the self indulgence and "noodling" which crept into his later work towards the end of his life. One star deducted for the absolutely rotten re-mix of Purple Haze which sets the guitar in the left channel and the vocal in the right giving the song a strange disembodied feel....then again, one should remember it was originally released in mono!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Yes, He most defininitely was experienced!
Are You Experienced shows Jimi Hendrix at his arguable best. This new remastered copy with 6 more extra tracks than the original makes this, in my mind, his most consistent (songwise) album. The most incredible album starter "Foxy Lady" to the psychedelic "love or confusion",this album inspires you. You must get this album from the most influential guitarist of this (and most probably the next) millenium.
